Individuals with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tend to have a difficult time bonding emotionally with others and may find it difficult to express themselves. Rather than verbal communication, equine therapy allows individuals with ASD to experience physical communication with the horses. They brush them, hug them, and pat them. Learning to care for the horses can help them to associate the care they provide with feelings and therefore help to create an unspoken emotional bond.

The above picture is of a client Rayyan. Rayyan has continued to make amazing progress in his equine therapy . He now feels comfortable patting and brushing the horses that he meets. However, Rayyan does seem to have a favourite and her name is Bubblegum. She always gets his extra attention. Rayyan always seems very happy around Bubblegum and likes giving her gentle hugs and pats whilst grooming her occasionally. He is also very comfortable with Bubblegum eating grass right next to his leg. We are so happy to see how at peace Rayyan seems to feel at equine therapy and look forward to more stories about him and Bubblegum
